Dii. is a widely used carbocyanine dye to label cell membranes. its high photostability & low toxicity allow the dye to be used for the anterograde and retrograde labeling of neurons, as well as for long term cell tracing in cultures & in living embryos or animals. dii has orange-red fluorescence.
Dio. is another carbocyanine membrane dye that has applications similar to those of dii (60010). however, dio has green fluorescent emission and the lateral diffusion rate on the membranes is generally slower than that of dii. dio and dii are often used together in dual color studies
Dioc14(3). is a dio derivative, but is more soluble in aqueous media than the latter because of the shorter hydrocarbon chains. the dye is more suitable than dio for staining cells suspension.
Dia. is a green fluorescent membrane dye which diffuses much faster than dio in cell membranes. dia and dii (60010) have been used together for two color membrane staining.
Neuro-Dio. biotium developed neuro-dio as a replacement for the green fluorescent dio (60011), neuro-dio and dio have nearly identical absorption and emission spectra, but the former has better solubility in membranes and does not form non-fluorescent aggregates.
Neuro-Dii. biotium developed neuro-dii as a replacement for dii (60010), neuro-dii and dii have nearly identical absorption and emission spectra, but the former has structural features that make the probe diffuse faster than dii on cell membranes and may also result in a more stable labeling.
Dii. is uniformly dissolved in vegetable oil in a formulation optimized for microinjection. carbocyanine microinjection technique has been widely used for fate mapping and cell lineage studies and for the determination of spatial organization and connectivity patterns of central nervous systems.
Neuro-DiI. Derivative of DiI and has similar spectral properties as DiI. Neuro-DiI is uniformly dissolved in vegetable oil in a formulation optimized for microinjection

Am1-43. biotium has developed am1-43 as a fixable, activity-dependent fluorescent nerve terminal probe. am1-43 functions similarly as our synaptogreen (70020) (equivalent to fm1-43, a trademark of molecular probes, inc.) does, but with the additional property of being fixable.
Am4-64. biotium has developed am4-64 as a fixable, activity-dependent fluorescent nerve terminal probe. am4-64 functions similarly as our synaptored c2 (70021) (equivalent to fm4-64, a trademark of molecular probes, inc.) does, but with the additional property of being fixable.

ADVASEP-7. is a sulfonated-b-cyclodextrin derivative that has been reported to reduce background fluorescence when using SynaptoGreen C4 (also called FM1-43 (20020)) to stain brain slices.
Nerve Terminal Staining Kit I. This kit contains 5x1 mg SynaptoGreen C4 (70020, equivalent to FM1-43, a trademark of Molecular Probes, Inc.) and 250 mg ADVASEP-7 (sulfonated -cyclodextrin) (70029).
Nerve Terminal Staining Kit II. This kit contains 1mg AM1-43 (70024) and 100 mg ADVASEP-7 (70029).
Nerve Terminal Staining Kit II. This kit contains 1mg AM1-43 (70024) and 100 mg SCAS (70037).
Nerve Terminal Staining Kit III. This kit contains 5x1 mg SynaptoGreen C4 ((70022), equivalent to FM1-43, a trademark of Molecular Probes, Inc.) and 100 mg Sulforhodamine 101 (80101).
Nerve Terminal Staining Kit V. This kit contains 5x1 mg SynaptoRed C2((70027), equivalent to FM4-64, a trademark of Molecular probes, Inc.) and 250 mg ADVASEP-7(70029).
Biotium. developed AM2-10 as a fixable analog of SynaptoGreen C2 (FM2-10). The utility of this probe is still under evaluation.
SCAS. is a quencher developed by Bioutium to reduce background fluorescence when using our fixable AM dyes, SynaptoGreen and SynaptoRed dyes.Unlike ADVASEP-7, SCAS dramatically lowers background fluorescence as soon as it is added to the preparation without the need for repeated washings.
AM1-44. is improved upon AM1-43 (70024) with better fixability. The dye can also be used as a general probe for following endocytosis.
AM4-65. is a fixable red fluorescent nerve terminal probe. The dye is spectrally identical to SynaptoRed C2 (70021), but it has an additional amine group at the hydrophilic end of the molecule, making the dye fixable with formaldehyde or glutaldehyde. The dye is used with GFP for two-colors studies.
SynaptoRed C1. is similar to the widely used red fluorescent nerve terminal dye-SynaptoRed C2 (70021) except that the lipophilic tail of the latter is one carbon longer than that of the former. Thus, SynaptoRed C1 is expected to have a greater inoff-ratein than SynaptoRed C2 does.
SynaptoRed C1 (70040) is supplied in 5x1 mg unit size.
SynaptoGreen C1. has the shortest (one-carbon) lipophilic tail and is the most water soluble of the nerve terminal dye series. Thus it is expected to have the slowest inon-ratein but the fastest inoff-ratein.
SynaptoGreen C1 (70042) is supplied in 5x1 mg unit size.
SynaptoGreen C2. is more water soluble than SynaptoGreen C4 (70020) and thus has a faster de-staining rate than the latter.
SynaptoGreen C2 is supplied in 5x1 mg unit size.
SynaptoGreen C5. is similar to SynaptoGreen C4-(70020) except that the lipophilic tail is one carbon longer. Thus SynaptoGreen C5 is less water soluble than SynaptoGreen C4 and thus faster staining rate but slower de-staining rate.
SynaptoGreen C5 is supplied in 5x1 mg unit size.
SynaptoGreen C18 (aka FM3-25). is similar to SynaptoGreen C4-(70020) except that the lipophilic tail is 14 carbons longer. Thus SynaptoGreen C18 is less water soluble than SynaptoGreen C4 and thus has a faster staining rate but slower de-staining rate.
SynaptoGreen C18 is supplied in 5x1 mg unit size.
AM4-66. is a lipophilic styryl dye that has an amine group at the hydrophilic head. The amine group can react with formaldehyde or glutaldehyde to make the dye fixable.
AM3-25. is a lipophilic styryl dye that has an amine group at the hydrophilic head. The amine group can react with formaldehyde or glutaldehyde to make the dye fixable.
HM1-43. is a lipophilic styryl dye that has a hydrazide group at the hydrophilic head. The hydrazide group can react with formaldehyde or glutaldehyde to make the dye fixable.
Hydroxystilbamidine. has been used extensively as a retrograde tracer for neurons and also a histochemical stain.
Lucifer Yellow CH lithium salt (LY CH lithium salt). is a widely used polar molecular tracer for studying neuronal morphology. The fluorescent molecule contains a carbohydrazide that allows the molecule to be fixable with an aldehyde fixation agent.
Lucifer Yellow CH potaasium salt (LY CH potassium salt). is a widely used polar molecular tracer for studying neuronal morphology. The fluorescent molecule contains a carbohydrazide that allows the molecule to be fixable with an aldehyde fixation agent.
fluorescent biotin derivative. is a tracer for studying neuronal morphology. The biotin portion of the molecule allows amplification of the fluorescent signal using biotin and avidin or stretpavidin interaction. The staining tolerates conditions of aldehyde fixation and washing with detergent.
Lucifer Yellow CH (80015-and-80016). Lucifer Yellow Cadaverine can be used as a fixable fluorescent tracer. In addition, the dye can be used to conjugate to carboxylic acid groups.
